On your mark, get set ...

A newcomer to the circuit takes the plunge and shares what she has learned so far
By Kendra Krumpe

Although my house was overflowing with art supplies, my bachelor of fine arts degree from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania had been collecting dust for quite a while. I had been working some sort of job ever since college, so my love of making art had taken a backseat to my pursuit of an income. But after I stopped working in order to spend more time with my infant and toddler, I soon realized - believe it or not - that I did not have enough to "do."

I'm one of those people who like to have a lot going on. I have to be doing something every minute to be happy. So, I decided to take the plunge. I would get back to creating mixed media artworks, and start selling them at art festivals.

Fortunately, I am also a compulsive list-maker. I immediately sat down and began listing the priorities that I felt were important to launch my little "Operation Kendra the Artist." Now, after my first few shows, I can already look back and see that some of the things I listed were definite necessities; others I could have lived without for a while. And some of the most important planning elements weren't on my original list at all! So, I have revised it to share what I have lived and learned on the show circuit to date.
