Don't Forget the Swiss Army Knife

Multiple-purpose tools can make a circuit artist's life a lot easier

It really is not becoming to drool over your tools. And it isn't just a guy thing either. My wife, the show artist in this family, gets glassy-eyed shopper's myopia in hardware stores even worse than I do.

But, whether you are mesmerized by tools and equipment or only mildly tolerate them, come along with me for a few minutes to consider some that are absolutely necessary for doing shows. (OK, maybe a few fall into the "useful but not mandatory" category.) I'm not speaking of tents and their related equipment here, but other important items that should accompany artists on the road. As our frequent trips to the hardware store have taught us, there is an ever-growing array of gadgetry to entice us. But, in the interest of reducing the amount of junk you carry around, it helps to whittle the pile down, focusing on a few basics that can do double duty.
