A ShowOff canopy sells
for about $900.
Choosing the right way to display your work is probably the most daunting challenge when starting out on the show circuit. And sometimes the scariest part of that challenge is picking the tent or canopy that is right for your needs and your budget. After all, your canopy not only provides a home to your artwork, but it essentially becomes your home away from home, at least during show hours. However, whether you're new to the circuit, transitioning from indoor to outdoors shows or just looking to get rid of that old tent, finding a canopy doesn't have to be as difficult as you might think.
There are two approaches you can take. The first is simpler but more time consuming: Talk to you fellow exhibitors. If you're currently on the outdoor show circuit, that's a breeze. Simply take some time at your next show to wander the rows of artists, notice the different canopy brands and pick the brains of the owners. If you make your living on the indoor circuit, it will be a bit harder. However, you'd be surprised at the number of indoor artists and crafters who at one time participated in outdoor events and can provide useful feedback regarding canopies. (In many instances, the reason many of these exhibitors do indoor shows is that they got tired of dealing with the weather and maintaining a canopy.) If you're new to the circuit, stroll an art show and talk to the artists, read Sunshine Artist, or post a message on our Web forum (www.sunshineartist.com). Getting firsthand feedback from artists doesn't have to be an arduous job - and you just might learn valuable information about other aspects of the circuit as well.
